kenyan orphan project

Warwick

KOP Warwick is now entering its third year, and after a fantastic 12 months that saw us beating our fundraising target – this year we hope it will be bigger and better than ever!

We shook buckets at train stations and city centres, had raffles and tea parties. We partied hard at KOPs and robbers, and had breakfast sales for those 8am lectures. Best of all we completed a mammoth 435km cycle, which this year is going nationwide!

All of our fundraising over the past year went directly to VIMA and after all our hard work we travelled out to Kisumu to see exactly where they spend it. We had a fantastic time meeting children benefiting from VIMA’s work and getting stuck in with many of the other projects KOP supports. From football (on the most enormous pitch ever!) with the Hovic boys, to teaching the handwashing song to children at Kunya primary school, and an eye-opening insight into healthcare in Kenya, it was 2 weeks that went far too fast.

We are really excited about KOP at Warwick this year and would love to hear from you if you want to get involved:

You can check out our website at www.kopwarwick.weebly.com where there’s also a link to our facebook page.

Or you can contact the committee (President - Charis, Vice President - Victoria or Events Co-ordinator - Katie W) at kopwarwick@hotmail.co.uk and we’ll be happy to answer any questions!

Lots of Love KOP Warwick!

2011 Fundraising: In support of the KOP Making Tracks fundraiser, KOP Students present A KOPing Long Way!

On 30th/31st October 2011, we will be hosting the first-ever KOP NATIONAL FUNDRAISER and cycling 435km in under 12 hours!  If you want more information, please contact us.

In 2010 we raised well over £3,000 for KOP with support from all our friends and family.  It was hugely inspiring for us to see first-hand how this money is used directly to improve the lives of children at VIMA.

Thank you to everyone who supported us!

Our project

VIMA is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Kondele; an extremely deprived area near Kisumu. VIMA offers support for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC's) in the area through foster homes and carers; thus offering personal care in a safe, family environment and concentrates on the educational and material support to allow these children to live normal lives.

Money raised by KOP Warwick will finance the living costs of 37 orphans and vulnerable children to sustain the family environment, education costs such as books, uniforms and fees, and health expenses. In order to support this and to facilitate the support of more children waiting for VIMA's help, KOP will finance the administrative and staff costs of the programme. Any further funds will allow the initiation of income generating activities (IGAs) for VIMA and the expansion of child support.
