The experience of a lifetime A chance to see the country, meet the people and visit KOP projects. This cycle challenge is to ride from Nairobi to Kisumu (435kms) along the old colonial route across the Rift Valley to Lake Victoria. KOP has arranged this exciting fundraising event with the logistical support of ‘Action Challenge’ and the ride will take place between 5th – 14th November 2010. The cost of the event is £1795 but a very generous sponsorship donation from ‘Festival Republic’ has meant that KOP can offer a hugely discounted rate of £995 to the first 35 places (plus personal insurance – being arranged by KOP). This cost includes flights, accommodation, bikes, meals and all the guides and security expected in a well organised and safe event. It will be physically challenging, but huge fun is guaranteed. The whole purpose of this event is to raise the profile of the work being undertaken by KOP in western Kenya and therefore each participant is also asked to raise additional funds to support the ongoing KOP projects, many of which are outlined in detail on this website. Thousands of orphans and vulnerable children - in an area that suffers significant deprivation, poverty and disease - have been given improved health, a chance at better education and an opportunity to develop and succeed as a result of the efforts of KOP, the massive support of KOP students and the many very generous individuals who have donated to our charity. But our work goes on developing sustainable programmes that allow the communities to better understand and benefit from long term processes that will ensure future generations are able to prevent or are better equipped to deal with the many huge pressures that impact on young children in Kenya. Health, nutrition and education are inextricably linked – KOP is developing programmes that aim to improve the physical condition and cognitive ability of children who may otherwise have little or no chance in life. KOP is asking each participant to fundraise £1200 (in addition to the event fee) towards KOP projects. Please read the attached documents for more information on how to apply’.
