kenyan orphan project

Manchester

We are KOP Manchester!

KOP first came to Manchester last year where we organised a small, yet dedicated team to fundraise for Kochogo feeding centre. Our fundraising events included...

• Sponsored cycle ride
• Belly dancing night
• Bake Sales
• Contacting local businesses
• Lucky Squares
• Friends in high places!
• Presentations at secondary schools and 6th form colleges
• Liaising with local churches

The trip itself was an incredible experience. The trip provides a unique insight into a developing country and its healthcare system. The most remarkable thing is amidst the corruption and hardship there are compassionate people working tirelessly to improve their community. The opportunity to help in any capacity, whether it is financial or physical, is a very profound thing indeed.

This year we’re back; with a larger group than last year and eager to raise even more money over the course of the next 7 months.

New to the Kenyan Orphan Project, we are working on building up our profile around Uni, and trying to get as many people involved as possible! If you want to get in touch, fundraise and have fun; please join our facebook group! - KOP Manchester.

Love to hear from you!! The more the merrier!! We want to hear from you!

Our project

The high prevalence of HIV/AIDS, low levels of income and lack of industry have been major contributing factors for poverty in this area of Kenya. Most people live below the poverty line and are unable to provide children with basic needs or a formal education. In the absence of support many children are orphaned and migrate, or are forced onto the streets.

HOVIC (Hope for Victoria Children) is a project in the centre of Kisumu town that offers shelter and food for some of the many street children; providing a refuge away from the violence and drug abuse that is rampant on the streets of Kisumu. HOVIC provides access to the basic means of survival; clean water, two meals per day, healthcare, education and support. HOVIC aims to provide children with an alternative to life on the streets, into foster homes, schools and jobs.

Funds raised by KOP Manchester pay for school fees for 15 street children in primary education, 10 in secondary education and vocational training for a further 10 children. This year KOP funds will also allow provision of two meals a day at weekends for 100 street children.
