kenyan orphan project

Cardiff

2009 sees the second KOP Cardiff trip to Kenya, the focus project for our visit will be Alendu primary school. This year 16 students are heading out, with funds raised and eager to work. Their leader is the grizzled KOP veteran Alex, in her third year and the KOP Cardiff President.

The rest of the Committee compromises Emily and Kerri as co-treasurers, Tom Olly Ceri and Luke as ‘team cool’ (running social planning and publicity) Lowri as Secretary and Danni as the preclinical rep.

This academic year as seen KOP Cardiff step up a gear from 2007/2008 with a pair of fundraising parties under our belt and the epic KOP members only Safari social! There’s also been a very successful Tesco Extra bag pack where we made a killing in the run up to Christmas. Despite any ‘recession’ we’re heading again in March to improve our successes. More socials are planned bringing funding in and also promoting KOP amongst the student body. A team bonding weekend is also going to be squeezed in amongst exams in the Spring in a lodge in the Brecon Beacons.

If you want to get in touch, joint fundraising or just having fun; email us or facebook KOP – Cardiff.

Maybe see you in Kisumu!? Loads of Love! The KOP Cardiff Team.

Our project

Alendu Primary School is a new project for KOP in 2009. The school buildings are made from traditional materials; principally wood and mud and the walls of many classrooms are simply crumbling away. This is incredibly hazardous for the pupils and many classes are taken outside in the shelter of the trees.

There is much work to be done and the Alendu school project will be developed over a number of years. Not only do we intend to build new classrooms, we also want to improve sanitation, water management facilities and implement a nutritious feeding programme.

Students from Cardiff KOP will be financing the construction of four new classrooms. It is likely that many students get their hands dirty during the summer programme!
