kenyan orphan project
Bristol

Hi Everyone, we are KOP Bristol!!

KOP started in Bristol in 2007 with a small bunch of dedicated students. We have really taken off this year and are excited about sending students to Kenya for the first time in August.

We are a very friendly bunch and have loads of fun organising exciting fundraisers including band nights, a Coppers for KOP night collecting money in bars and clubs, carol singing, bag packs and an Art & Promises Auction.

We have lots of fundraisers in the pipeline over the next couple of months. If you would like to get involved in KOP Bristol then please email Min or Ellie.

Thank you
Bristol KOP

Our project

Kochogo Feeding Centre was built by KOP Students in 2005 to offer children a chance to focus on their education by offering two nutritious meals a day. The prevalence of HIV and AIDS in Kenya means that many children are left to be cared for by their grandparents and often the responsibility of providing food falls to the eldest child. This means that a huge number of children are unable to continue their education as the responsibility of providing for family members becomes a great burden.

KOP have increasingly become aware of a rise in young school-leavers and in 2005 took action, building the centre to provide local children with two meals per day. It is a fact that a lack of nutrition has a major impact on concentration and the ability to learn and absorb information. This facility has enabled them to focus on their education.

KOP student groups have funded the feeding programme at the centre ever since, and this year is no exception. In 2009 financial support from Bristol KOP students will provide meals for 75 OVC's who would otherwise go without. This year's funding will also allow expansion to 140 children, enabling an extra 65 children to eat and learn. Any further funds raised will contribute to income generating activities and the implementation of a new system for water harvesting and management at the centre.
