kenyan orphan project
Leicester

Leicester is proud to be one of the newest Universities to support the Kenyan Orphan Project, and despite joining late we are committed to make up for lost time with a mammoth fund-raising effort…

Headed by co-ordinators Lauren and Haresh, our group is excited to begin the fun in hand, with car-washes, cake sales, bag-packing and bar-crawls set to keep us busy until the summer..

With a huge majority of medic students, this project appeals very strongly to our group, and we are thrilled to be able to make a difference!

To get involved, or to support the project, please email us ...or join our facebook group! We look forward to hearing from you!

Our project

Kadinda Health Centre has been funded and built with the support of KOP students. Kadinda is located in an area of extreme poverty, with desperate need and very limited access to healthcare. The aim of Kadinda is to bring affordable healthcare to the surrounding community, offering acute medical services in respect of: infectious diseases; paediatric and surgical services; maternal healthcare; short-term inpatient stay; referrals to the local district hospital; basic laboratory tests including malaria films; x-ray facilities; and a fully stocked pharmacy.

The building of the health centre is now complete and is waiting to be staffed. In order to demonstrate to the Kenyan government that the project is viable and worthy of government funds, this year Leicester KOP will be funding the provision of health workers and support staff for a 12 month period.
